The Microsoft Management Summit has ended. It was great week. Operations Manager 2007 is now RTM. There was news about Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 and about Pre-sequenced Microsoft Apps for Softgrid. During the Keynote on day one Bob Muglia told about the successor to SQL 2005 will come in the beginning of 2008, Windows Server Virtualization (WSV) as being the final naming for codename "Veridian" (Longhorn Hypervisor), Cisco and EMC partnering to deliver network monitoring in Operations Manager 2007 R2 and announcing that System Center Service Manager is the final name for codename "Service Desk".We posted some pictures of the Longhorn Hypervisor, codename "Veridian" and wrote about System Center Virtual Machine Manager Beta 2. Microsoft did some press releases on the Management Summit and Stefan Stranger and I had first interview for the dutch System Center User Group. Omar van der Hoeven had some great information on Configuration Manager 2007. Kirill Tatarinov presented another keynote on tuesday and told about System Center Online Services and announced that SMS 2003 SP3 will be available in April. He also showed that the final naming for codename "DPM v2" will be Data Protection Manager 2007 and that the final naming for currently codenamed "Carmine" will be Virtual Machine Manager 2007.
System Center Service Manager beta 1 will be publicly available within 45 days and we posted some screenshots of the demo during the keynote. The Softgrid product team wrote some interesting information on SoftGrid 4.1 SP1 and 4.2 on their weblog. On thursday, we had a nice lunch with other bloggers, including Steven Bink.
Looking back, it was an interesting week. We are already looking forward to MMS 2008, which will be held in the Venetian at Las Vegas from April 28th to May 2nd. System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Virtual Machine Manager, System Center Capacity Planner v2 and Longhorn will have been released by then and perhaps even System Center Service Manager.
