Actually, the catalog has already moved - beginning Wednesday evening with replication taking a while to filter through. The catalog is now hosted by a technology known as "Pinpoint." Pinpoint came to life as a directory of qualified IT companies and their software solutions built on Microsoft technologies, and is now being used for other things as well (such as the System Center catalog). If you go to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/systemcenter/cc462790.aspx, you will be redirected to
http://pinpoint.microsoft.com/en-US/systemcenter/managementpackcatalog. (Some of the links still go to the old location, but don't count on that to last for long.)

System Center Service Manage can be fundamentally broken down into two parts:
1. The platform.
2. The solutions.
The platform includes all the infrastructure services such as the workflow engine, the model-based database, the data warehouse, the data access service, and many other services that make Service Manager easy to extend and customize.
The solutions includes those management packs that we ship out of the box for incident, change, problem, configuration, knowledge, and compliance/risk management.
The platform’s purpose is to enable IT process automation. Customers and partners can automate virtually any kind of IT process on top of the Service Manager platform. Some examples of IT processes that can be automated: new employee provisioning, self-service software deployment, VM migration, backup/recovery, SharePoint site provisioning…. the list goes on and on. Automating IT processes with software reduces costs, reduces errors, reduces time to value, and ultimately frees up the IT staff to work on strategic initiatives instead of fulfilling mundane requests over and over.(

In Operations Manager, the Gateway server role is primary used for monitoring servers outside the Root Management Servers trusted Domain boundary. Another popular use of the Gateway role is for performance improvements by placing gateways in sites with poor network connectivity. Sometimes it is necessary to “chain” multiple gateways together to get monitor across multiple untrusted boundaries.(

We are happy to release several cross platform-specific PowerShell scripts to help automate the discovery of UNIX/Linux servers, installation and upgrade of the cross platform agents for Operations Manager 2007 R2, signing of the certificates, and changing the Management Server managing the UNIX/Linux server.
Four PowerShell scripts are currently available:
* ChangeUnixIsManagedBy.ps1
* DiscoverUnixAgent.ps1
* InstallUnixAgent.ps1
* UpgradeUnixAgent.ps1
Help for each of these scripts is available by executing the script without any switches (and covered later in this article)(

A question that seems to come up a lot around here is from people who already have existing SMS 2003 servers and they want to either change the domain name or move the server to a new domain. Before we can truly address that question though, we must understand the different security modes available in each product because the security mode is what largely determines our answer.(
